Work with Me

I help scientists to communicate their work, leveraging over a decade of writing and editing experience and my own personal background in research. As a trained scientist, I understand how the process of science works and can help you to navigate the pitfalls of technical jargon to make your intended message compelling and clear. I never use generative AI.

My expertise spans:

  • scientific writing––clear communication of research for specialist audiences within science

  • science writing––synthesis, distillation, and translation of research for broad audiences outside of science

  • editing and fact-checking––ensuring the clarity and accuracy of others’ writing

  • verbal science storytelling––coaching others to give clear and compelling audiovisual presentations

My services include:

  • researching and writing news stories in the style of press releases, features, researcher profiles, and explainers (see examples)

  • editing grant proposals for submission to funding agencies (I have helped researchers secure over US$3 million in grant funding, including from the National Science Foundation, US Department of Agriculture, US Geological Survey, and NASA.)

  • editing draft manuscripts (see examples) for submission to peer-reviewed journals and identifying concerns within the scope of my scientific expertise (i.e., as if I were a reviewer)

  • editing drafted writing about research (e.g., public facing or technical reports)

  • providing feedback on science presentations through one-on-one virtual consultation (Check out the free five-part video series I created to learn the basics.)
